Who we are
Blackjack UK (the "App") is made by GrittyDigital Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), 82A James Carter Road, Mildenhall, IP28 7DE, United Kingdom. We're the data controller for the personal information described here. You can contact us at support@grittydigital.com.
This policy covers the App and this website, blackjackuk.app.
Information we collect
Your account
- Sign-in details. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive a unique account ID, your email address and, if you share it, your name. With Sign in with Apple you can choose to hide your email, in which case we get a private relay address instead.
- Your profile. Your display name, your @handle, and a profile photo if you choose to add one. You can hide your display name so other players only see your @handle.
Playing and social features
- Friends, parties and invites. Friend requests and friendships, the parties (saved groups) you create or are added to, and game invites you send or receive.
- Games in progress. The cards, moves and players in a game are processed on our servers so the game can be played. This live game data is temporary and is cleared automatically, at the latest 12 hours after a game goes quiet.
- Public game results and rankings. For games at public tables we keep each game's result (whether you won, how many players there were, and whether you left early) and your rating, games played and wins. These are used to calculate the rankings.
- Chat. Messages you send at a game table are passed live to the other players at that table. We don't keep a copy once they've been delivered.
- Reports. If you report another player, we keep the report: who was reported, the reason, any notes you add, and which game it was.
Your device
- Push notifications. If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can tell you about invites, friend requests and your turn.
- Photos. The App only accesses your photo library when you choose a profile photo, and only uploads the photo you pick.
- Technical data. Like most online services, our servers log technical information such as IP address, device type and the time of requests, to keep the service running and secure.
Advertising
The App shows ads from Google AdMob. We ask Google for non-personalised ads only, and the App does not ask to track you across other companies' apps and websites. To show ads, count views and prevent fraud, Google may still collect information such as your device type, IP address and how you interact with an ad. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
What other players can see
- Players in your games see your @handle, your profile photo, and your display name unless you've hidden it.
- Any signed-in player can see the rankings. Once you've played around 10 public games, your @handle, display name (unless hidden), profile photo, rating, games played and wins appear there.
- Other players can find you by your @handle to send a friend request.
How we use your information
- To run the App: sign you in, set up games, deal cards and enforce the rules.
- To provide social features: friends, parties, invites, chat and notifications.
- To calculate ratings and show the rankings.
- To keep the App safe: deal with reports, prevent abuse and cheating, and protect our systems.
- To show ads, which keep the App free.
- To fix problems, answer support requests and improve the App.
- To meet our legal obligations.
Under UK data protection law, we rely on performing our contract with you (providing the App you've signed up to), our legitimate interests (keeping the App safe, improving it and funding it through ads) and, where needed, your consent (for example for notifications and photo access, which you can withdraw in your device settings).
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with services that help us run the App:
- Supabase: sign-in, our database and profile photo storage.
- Fly.io: the servers that run games.
- Apple and Google: Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In.
- Expo and Apple: delivering push notifications.
- Google AdMob: ads, as described above.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our players or others. Some of these providers store data outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens, we rely on recognised legal safeguards for international transfers.
How long we keep it
- Account, profile, friends, parties and ratings: until you delete your account.
- Live games: cleared automatically, within 12 hours of a game going quiet.
- Chat: not stored after delivery.
- Reports: as long as we need them to keep the App safe. A report you made is deleted with your account.
- Support emails: as long as we need them to help you, and then deleted.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the App: on the home screen, open Settings and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, profile photo, friends, parties, invites, push tokens, ratings and game history. You can also email support@grittydigital.com and we'll do it for you.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to or restrict how we use it, and receive a copy of it. To use any of these rights, email support@grittydigital.com. We may need to confirm it's you before we act.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
Children
The App isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has given us their information, contact us and we'll delete it.
No real money
Blackjack UK is a card game for entertainment. There is no real-money gambling, nothing to buy, and no prizes. We don't collect payment details.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when the App changes how it uses your information, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the App.
